Finally the day to work on my Boomers is here. This is
half of the set we pulled down several years back when I
got disenchanted with amateur radio. I had a set of 4 with
all ½" hardline for harness and a 4 port power divider to
bring it all together. From the power divider I ran more
½" hardline down to the top of the tower where it
transitioned to 7/8" hardline. This time I decided to only
put up one set and we ran Belden 8814 from the harness
around both the top bearing and again at the tower top
and connected it to a 7/8" line. Here is some detail on the
mast arrangement we designed for the tower. I wanted to
have the 4 boomers for FM, 1 long boomer for 2 meters
sideband, a set of 432 sideband antennas and leave room
for a tri-bander. The plan was to side mount the HDR300
on the outside of the tower and use a 1 to 1 chain drive to
turn the bottom mast. This would allow me to set a ham 4
rotor inside the tower and run a pipe up the inside of the
lower mast to turn the top mast. It is mounted in a TB3
which is mounted to a custom built top plate with guy lugs
on the top of the lower mast. That plan has never been put
into action so the top mast is currently locked to the lower
mast which is mounted in a TB4 bearing on the custom
built top plate and currently sits in the clamps of the
HDR300 mounted to the bottom of the rotor plate.
